Ross-Cherry Creek Branch Library will reopen to the public on Nov. 13
Posted on Oct 25th, 2023

October 25, 2023 - The Ross-Cherry Creek Branch Library will reopen to the public on Monday, Nov. 13 with extended hours thanks to funding from Strong Library, Strong Denver, supported by the DPL Fund.

The branch will be open Monday-Thursday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Out of an abundance of caution, the branch temporarily closed in January 2022 due to concerns raised during an initial structural review of the building.

As part of the Denver Public Library’s commitment to care for its facilities, the structural review was part of the regular process of assessing all buildings within the library’s portfolio. These assessments allow facilities management to keep library buildings in good condition over time. After the initial review, a more in-depth structural review was completed in 2022. This review determined that a second opinion was needed to determine next steps.

The second opinion structural review of the building was completed in the first quarter of 2023. The library facilities team reviewed the report with the engineers who completed the review and our partners at the Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI). In May, the team confirmed that the structure does not require any intensive work or reconstruction work, just maintenance, and the building can be reoccupied and reopened safely.

Over the summer, multiple DPL teams worked to perform necessary cleaning, maintenance and IT work, to reorganize the space, and to maintain the collection. The branch began hiring staff for the location in September and has worked to fill open positions since. The work identified in the second opinion structural review will be implemented next year and over time as needed. The building is safe to reoccupy and we will continue working closely with our partners to ensure the building is maintained.

Thanks partially to funding from Strong Library, Strong Denver, supported by the DPL Fund, the branch will open with extended hours, light cosmetic upgrades, and a new layout. Updates can be found at www.denverlibrary.org/creekupdates
