About the Colorado Boulevard Bus Rapid Transit Project
The Colorado Department of Transportation, in collaboration with the Regional Transportation District, the City and County of Denver, Arapahoe County, and the City of Glendale, is conducting a planning study on Colorado Boulevard between I-70 and the Southmoor transit station south of Hampden Avenue. The study seeks to improve travel in this area through the establishment of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service along some parts of this corridor. The goals of the project include providing more travel choices, and improving travel, safety and air quality. Currently, the project is in the study phase in which public engagement is critical.
Over the last century, Colorado Boulevard has evolved to move high levels of daily traffic as efficiently as possible. However, that has resulted in a busy and congested corridor that doesn’t work well for all road users. Colorado Boulevard is a part of Denver's high-injury network for traffic-related deaths and serious injuries.
BRT provides high-quality transit service by combining the capacity and efficiency of light rail with the flexibility, cost and simplicity of bus service. The Colorado BRT project will build upon the results of the Colorado Boulevard Corridor Plan.
