February is Black History Month. Cherry Creek North’s history is a part of Denver’s Black history. The Cherry Creek area has evolved from one of the city's earliest Black neighborhoods into the upscale business and entertainment district of today. An event in February will honor the many Black residents who have contributed to the neighborhood’s vibrant history, including lifelong resident Nancelia Jackson, who recently passed away at 98.  

 

Panelists including Judge Gary Jackson (a CCNNA resident), Gary's uncle, Warren Scott, a retired U.S. Post Office Manager, Trudi Morrison, retired lawyer, former Deputy Sergeant at Arms of the U.S. Senate and Cleo Parker Robinson, founder and artistic director of Denver-based Cleo Parker Robinson Dance. The panel will be moderated by Chandra Whitfield, host and producer of “Colorado Matters” on Colorado Public Radio. The panelists will share their personal memories, offering a glimpse into Cherry Creek’s storied past, and discuss what is ahead on the horizon.
